Talented at sport and would like to pursue possible careers within; primary or secondary jobs in sport, the Health & Fitness industry, the sports education/education sector.

As a learner with us, you will live new experiences, gain new skills and achieve a qualification, but most importantly, you will set out on a pathway to a career that you will love.

Utilising best practice guidelines for the sector, we regularly benchmark ourself against contextualised “Gatsby Benchmarks” to evolve our Careers and EIAG strategy with the ever changing world of work.

Our team of Careers Leaders oversee our careers information, support & guidance strategy. Each learner will receive impartial and relevant guidance to support a successful transition onto their next step of their professional journey, wherever that may be.

Higher Education

University is a great option if you are looking to continue your studies at a higher level, with over 120 universities in the UK offering sports related degrees.

Studying with us will give you a competitive edge with your university application. Our learners are prepared when going to university as they are used to the independent studying that is required at degree level, due to the nature of our courses, which are more practical.

As part of your weekly tutorials, you will receive support and guidance with your UCAS and Student Finance applications.

Apprenticeships

If you decide to combine further study with employment, an apprenticeship is a great option, allowing you to earn while you continue to learn.

SCL are trailblazers in the world of apprenticeships; we educate learners through these programmes every year with 80% of them becoming employed with SCL at the end of their programme.

Higher education remains a popular option for most but attitudes towards apprenticeships have also evolved and they are now recognised as an equal alternative to university. This is reflected in the number of people starting this route to employment. In 2019/20 there were 271,890 apprenticeship starts – 66,730 of these were higher apprenticeships (degree Level 6 and 7).*

Playing professional or semi-professional sport

Studying with SCL provides you with an opportunity to go down the path towards playing professional or nonprofessional football.

You may want to consider scholarships in the USA, New Zealand or in other countries. Undertaking a football scholarship gives you the opportunity to experience life in other countries while playing your specialised sport and working towards a degree. You’ll have the opportunity to get involved in the game throughout your studies.

Many of SCL’s students have gained an education while keeping an eye on making it in the game. We have seen many of our graduates go on to making it in professional or non-professional football.

Employment

Over the course of your sports development programme, you will gain the underpinning knowledge and practical skills to take your next steps towards employment.

The UK has unrivalled experience and expertise in sports economy, with its companies leading the way both at home and overseas and is recognised as a global leader in the development and application of sport and physical activity policy, for both grassroots and elite sport. There are 581,000 people employed in the business of sport in the UK. The English Premier League (EPL) is broadcast to 1 billion homes in 188 nations and supports close to 100,000 jobs in the UK, generating broadcast revenue of more than £2.8 billion a year.*
