Overview

The HITZ Programme offers a relaxed environment for 16-18-year old’s to improve their functional English and maths, develop valuable life skills and gain important qualifications alongside experience from work placements and employer-led sessions.

The programme offers essential enrichment and sporting activities which supports the development of the whole individual through not only improving their mental but physical wellbeing.

The HITZ Programme is an education and employability programme for 16-18-year old’s where you can:

  • Gain nationally recognised qualifications
  • Improve your Maths and English
  • Learn new skills to become more work ready
  • Learn how to cook and eat more healthily
  • Improve your communication skills and confidence
  • Make new friends, have fun and take part in a range of activities

Learners aged 19+ may be eligible for funding if they have an EHCP

LEVEL:

Level 1 – Level 2 programmes available, dependent on education centre that you choose to study at.

Traineeship programmes available at some education centres.

YOUR EDUCATION

Dependent on the Centre that you choose to study at, you will complete a qualification in either:

  • BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Sport
  • City & Guilds Level 2 Employability Skills
  • Traineeship programmes

During your programme, you will benefit from:

  • Quality assurance and performance coaches to oversee your tutor and lessons
  • An innovative learning experience using our virtual learning hub, plus access to free Microsoft software

INFORMATION, ADVICE & GUIDANCE

SCL are nationally accredited for information, advice and guidance and we are trained in these areas to help you with your development.

Our Careers Leader oversees our careers information, advice & guidance strategy. Each learner will receive impartial and relevant guidance to support a successful transition onto their next step of their professional journey, wherever that may be.

Our Careers Leader is dedicated to supporting you to understand your career options and how to get there. This is underpinned by a programme of work experience and continual development of work-ready and life skills.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME

Our passionate team of Progress Coaches will deliver SCL’s Personal Development Programme, which will consist of a blend of group workshops and individual development meetings, aimed to add significant value to the progress and development of each learner.

The programme will include key themes such as morals and values, mental health awareness, healthy relationships, digital skills, and careers, and will form part of your timetable, with a scheduled 1.5 hours per week.

Your Personal Development Programme will allow you to stand out from the crowd. You will develop the behaviours, attitudes and values, inspired by sport, which are transferrable into the professional world, supporting you to receive the best possible opportunities for your future.

In addition, the Progress Coach team will support learners through an online ‘Essentials’ programme, aiming to grow their social awareness and develop them for success.


ENGLISH & MATHS

If you are yet to pass a qualification in English and/or maths prior to starting your programme with SCL, you will be required to study one or both alongside your qualification in sport.

We know that English and maths can be challenging and have invested in our services to help you overcome that challenge. Upon course completion, the skills you acquire will be evidenced by either a Functional Skills or a GCSE qualification.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Participating in work experience allows you to enhance your personal development and knowledge of a variety of industries.

We understand the importance of real work experience which is why, as part of your education and training programme, you will take part in 24 hours of work experience. Or, if you are studying on a traineeship, you will complete up to 204 hours of work experience.

You will gain insight into what it will be like to work in a range of industries, whilst developing your communication, IT, time management and team working skills.

By showcasing your skills, knowledge and personality through work experience and direct engagement with employers, you will increase your opportunities to secure meaningful employment upon completion of your course.

 

ENRICHMENT

The enrichment element of your programme includes an exciting mix of sporting activities and personal development opportunities. This might include:

  • Rugby
  • Football
  • Dodgeball
  • Yoga
  • Basketball
  • Gym sessions
  • Public speaking classes
  • Additional qualifications such as First Aid
  • CV and cover letter writing
  • Support with education and/or job applications

Your programme also includes day trips, dependent on the Centre that you choose to study at. Examples of previous day trips include visits to Thorpe Park, mini golf activities, day trips to London and visits to other HITZ sites.

BTEC LEVEL 1 INTRODUCTORY DIPLOMA IN SPORT

The BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Sport has been designed to provide learners with the opportunity to develop a range of transferrable skills, whilst supporting progression onto further study, and ultimately, employment.

Successful completion of your programme will provide you with the option to apply for a Level 2 Diploma in Sport or a Level 2 Extended Certificate in Employability. As part of your weekly tutorials, you will receive support and guidance with opportunities for progression to further study.

If you decide to combine further study with employment, you might be eligible for an apprenticeship within the sport and leisure industry.

 

CITY & GUILDS LEVEL 2 EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS

The City & Guilds Level 2 in Employability Skills is designed to support learners in developing the skills and attitudes values by employers. The aim is to help you to successfully prepare for and get a job, while providing you with the tools to succeed and advance in your role.

Throughout your  programme, you will receive information, support and guidance on a variety of aspects to support you in securing meaningful employment. This will form the basis of your tutorial sessions, in addition to the academic monitoring and target setting.

Bath Rugby HITZ

Bath Rugby HITZ is based at the Rec; the famous home of Bath Rugby.

As well as taking part in a range of sports at the Rec, learners have access to use the Fitness First gym in central Bath, and sports and leisure facilities of GLL Bath.

Bath Rugby HITZ have fantastic links with local businesses and work with learners to actively search for relevant and meaningful work placements.

Gloucester Rugby Foundation are delivering the HITZ Traineeship programme in Gloucestershire.

HITZ uses rugby’s core values of teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship to get young people not in education, training or employment (NEET) back into education, training, apprenticeships and/or employment, and is delivered nationally by England’s 12 professional rugby clubs.
